Some of the things I'm engaged in
Teaching Civic Tech and Algorithms for Social Good @ Bard College
In Spring 2026 I’m teaching Civic Tech and Algorithms for Social Good. The course grew directly out of my experience as a “tech person” in local government and the World Bank. Technology is used more and more in shaping our lives, often through algorithmic decision-making systems that claim to “do good.” In this course, we’ll slow that down and ask what “good” actually looks like, which problems are worth working on, and what trade-offs these systems create.

A new initiative to compile, develop, and promote compelling narratives that increase public support for and engagement in democracy. The Democracy Narratives Campaign brings together more than 30 organizations, research institutions, and funders working on democracy and communications. It is supported by initial funding from Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.
